The MW4 was built and flown at BAe Filton in 1982 making it unofficially the last ‘Bristol’ aeroplane.
The aircraft was originally powered by a 440 cc Solo engine, later replaced by a 330 cc Fuji Robin with vee belt reduction gear.
A unique feature is the one piece all flying tail assembly which pivots on a modified car prop shaft joint. This causes the tailplane to slew as rudder is applied and vice-versa. No trim change is noticeable by the pilot.
The wing has two spar tubes and is supported by a pair of vee struts. Otherwise details of construction are similar to other MW microlights.
Although designed pre Section S, the aircraft complies with ARB Paper 98 Ultra-Light Aeroplanes normal category.
The MW4 is still flying and appears regularly at vintage microlight fly-ins.
